As noted on the BlogHer web site, "Today BlogHer is the leading participatory news, entertainment and information network for women online, reaching more than 15 million women each month via annual conferences, a Web hub (http://www.blogher.com), and an publishing network of more than 2,500 qualified, contextually targeted blog affiliates (http://blogherads.com)."

I participated in the development of the following functionality.

Conferences

Conferences section uses custom Drupal theme. This section displays additional information about the BlogHer Conferences such as attendees, agenda, speakers, sponsors, logistics.
The logged in user can join the attendees for a conference.

Site Redesign

Site redesign led to cleaner look of the site and helped achieving better SEO. The various types of content are visually distinguished, commercial ads are not annoying.

My BlogHer

My BlogHer section lists various activities by the users of the site. The content can be filtered by content type and poster, such as all users, followed users, friends, own posts. Content is sorted chronologically in descendant order.

BlogHer Chatter

The Chatter functionality allows the logged in users to post short (up to 140 characters) messages. The logged in user can delete own messages, repost a post as spam, send direct messages to the poster. The difference between this functionality and similar functionality such as Twitter is that the user could reply to other user's post and these comments are shown together with the original post.

Friends/Follow

The logged in user can follow and add as friends other users. The friendship is established after confirmation. The user could browse the latest posts of his/her friends. The user has the option to select which content types should be displayed.

BlogHer Groups

The Groups functionality allows the user to create own group or join an existing group. Group's membership could be open or moderated. Each group can be categorized with free tags and group categories such as Life, Money, etc. Posted content could be added to group(s). There is a group forum also.

It is possible to search for groups by name, description, tag or category.

BlogHer Favorites

BlogHer Favorites displays the post marked as favorite by the logged in user or his friends/people who he does follow. The list could be filtered by content type or poster's relation: friend or other. Each favorited post could be unmarked as such and tagged with custom tags. The number of users who favorited the particular item is displayed also. The favorites are displayed chronologically in descending order.

BlogHer Profile

BlogHer Profile display customized information about the user, such as address, email, short bio, user's sites, groups, friends, etc. The order of the content groups could be changed by drag and drop.

The BlogHer Profile acts as a summary of the person's presence in Internet and could be successfully referred from external sites.

BlogHer Profile Settings

BlogHer Profile content and look is configured in this section. The user can provide contact information, short bio, profession, location. BlogHer Conferences' attendance is configured here also.

The user could submit tags for his profile. These tags are grouped in several categories.

The user could provide up to 10 external sites which will be displayed in his/her profile. The external sites' RSS feeds are displayed in the profile also.

Each section in the BlogHer profile's page could be displayed for selected users only. The options are "public", "friends only". "only me" or do not show at all.

The user could select which friends should be displayed on the profile page. The friends' list could sorted alphabetically, recently added or other.

There are four predefined color themes which the profile could be displayed with.

The last settings are the Inbox settings where the user could select which private messages to accept and where these messages should be delivered. The options are the user's email and the user's BlogHer Inbox.

BlogHer Private Messages

The private messages functionality provides the options of listing and composing of private messages. Messages could be sorted in folders. There is an address book also.

BlogHer Member Search

The BlogHer users could search for other users by username, blog name, email, tags, BlogHer conferences attendance.

The found users are listed in alphabetical order with the option to follow a user.

BlogHer Facebook Connect

BlogHer Facebook Connect functionality allows the user to connect his/her user profile with own profile in Facebook. The user could allow selected types of content posted by himself to appear on his own Facebook wall.

This functionality uses the Facebook API.

BlogHer Twitter OAuth

Blogher Chatter posts could be posted in the user's twitter profile also. This functionality uses the Twitter OAuth process.
